5 Things To Know Before Visiting Zanzibar

Tanzanian shilling

1. Zanzibar is a predominantly Muslim island, so it is advisable to dress modestly and respectfully, especially when visiting Stone Town and other religious sites.

Avoid wearing revealing or tight clothing, and cover your shoulders and knees.

2. Zanzibar has a tropical climate, with hot and humid weather throughout the year.

The best time to visit is from June to October when the weather is dry and sunny.

The rainy season is from March to May and from November to December when the weather can be wet and unpredictable.

Do not guess; check out our guide: When Is The Best Time To Visit Zanzibar Islands?

3. Zanzibar uses the Tanzanian shilling as its currency, but hotels and tour operators also widely accept US dollars.

You can exchange money at the airport, in Stone Town, or at some ATMs.

Cash on hand is recommended, as not all places accept credit cards.

4. Zanzibar is a safe and friendly destination, but it is always wise to take some precautions.

Avoid walking alone at night, keep your valuables in a safe place, and be aware of your surroundings.

If you encounter any vendors or locals who try to sell you something or offer you a tour, politely decline and walk away.

5. Zanzibar is a malaria-risk area, so taking anti-malarial medication before and during your trip is advisable.

You should also use mosquito repellent and sleep under a mosquito net.

Before traveling to Zanzibar, consult your doctor about necessary vaccinations or medications.

Conclusion

As your three-day Zanzibar adventure rounds up, following our guide, you must have experienced the island’s rich variety of culture, history, and natural wonders.

From the historic lanes of Stone Town to the new beaches of Nungwi and the vibrant Jozani Forest, Zanzibar leaves you with different memories to savor.

Ultimately, Zanzibar is a dream destination that offers various experiences for travelers of all tastes and budgets.

You can easily spend 3 days or more in Zanzibar and still have more to see and do.
