Conditional Permanent Residence (PR) Canada Latest Update

It’s been years since the abolishment of the Conditional Permanent Residence in Canada and you might be curious to know the latest Update as regards the Conditional Permanent Residence in Canada.

This article has every detail you need to know concerning Conditional Permanent Residency in Canada.

For a long time, Canada has been a destination for economic immigration, with lots of people immigrating to the country in search of greener pastures.

Once a Foreigner is granted permanent residence in Canada, they have a right to live and work anywhere in the country.

They also have full access to health care, social support, and protection under Canadian law. This has been a driving force to getting the “golden PR Card”.

For some Foreigners, it was a “game of deceit” as they could go as far as faking marriages with Canadians in order to get Permanent Residence in Canada.

Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada had to find a way to curb this deceitful act, which led to the introduction of Conditional Permanent Residence in 2012.

All You Should Know About Conditional Permanent Residence (PR) in Canada

Conditional Permanent Residence in Canada was introduced in October 2012 to deter people from seeking to immigrate to Canada through forged relationships.

It indicated that one must cohabit in a conjugal relationship with their sponsor or partner for 2 years after the day on which they became a Permanent Resident.

However, on April 28, 2017, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) abolished the Conditional Permanent Residence (PR).

By abolishing the PR, the Canadian government said that it was addressing concerns that vulnerable sponsored spouses or partners may remain in abusive relationships because they fear that their residence status may be revoked.

The Canadian Government recognizes that while cases of marriage fraud exist, the majority of relationships are genuine, and most spousal sponsorship applications are made in good faith.

The safety of all Canadian residents was prioritized, and other means to counter fraudulent marriages were put in place.

What is the Update on Conditional Permanent Residence (PR) in Canada?

With the conditional Permanent Residence being abolished, you might want to know its latest update.

Immigly.com can confirm that since the abolishment of the Conditional Permanent Residency, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizens Canada has been issuing Permanent Residence status to eligible applicants without conditions.

However, there are some Canadian Immigration programs that provide foreigners a pathway in getting Canadian Permanent Residence.

While Canadian Permanent Residence can be obtained from abroad, many foreigners who obtained PR did so by first coming to Canada and becoming temporary residents.

The following options are available to Foreigners who intend to obtain PR in Canada;

  • Express Entry Program (For Professionals and Trade Workers)
  • Provincial Nomination Programme ( For those who could not meet Express Entry Requirements)
  • Business Immigration Program (For business owners)
  • Work Permit (With an LMIA from a Canadian Employer)
  • Study Visa (For undergraduates or Graduates)
  • Visitor Visa (Change to LMIA after reaching Canada)
  • Atlantic Immigration Nominee.

However, the immigration process is neither easy nor smooth because of its high demand.

For smoother immigration proceedings, it is always advisable to seek professional advice from a seasoned and trusted immigration consultancy service like Immigly.com.
